The Wholesome Weigh, 37 Churchyard, Hitchin
Due to the current covid-19 pandemic the Zero Waste workshops have been postponed. Keep an eye on my social media channels for announcements of when the next sessions will be running.
Are you at the start of your Zero Waste journey?
Do you want to understand the environmental impact of your actions and how you can reduce your carbon footprint?
Are you keen to learn new tools for embarking on your less waste journey?
If the answer is yes, then come along and join me for ‘An Introduction to Zero Waste’ at The Wholesome Weigh, Hitchin’s very own bulk store, on Thursday 16th April, 7.30-9.30pm.
There will be a couple of short presentations during the workshop providing the environmental context for the topics we will be discussing but most of the workshop will be dedicated to practical activities which we will work through, discuss and brainstorm in groups.
Doors will open at 7pm and the session will begin at 7.30pm. The lovely Aimee and Ali are keeping their tills open from 7 - 7.30pm for you to purchase bulk items before we begin. If you would like to take advantage of the opportunity to top up your bulk supplies then remember to bring along your bags and containers. There will also be the opportunity to grab a cup of tea before we get going.
Recycling can be a tricky business!
Part 1:
In the first workshop we will be looking at the waste we are currently creating and how this is disposed of, whether through landfill, recycling or reuse to help us to get to grips with our own waste footprint.
The workshop will begin with a short presentation setting the wider climate context in which all of our actions sit, it will examine the way in which consumerism is fueling climate change and how we as consumers can both moderate our behaviours and demand better practices from the businesses which serve us.
Prior to the workshop all participants will have the opportunity to complete an exercise which will challenge you to get to grips with your motivations for working towards a less wasteful way of living. There will be an opportunity to share your motivations with the group, if you wish.
During the second half of the session we will carry out a waste audit looking at some of the items we frequently throw away, discussing their disposal and the alternative options that are available to us.
We will also discuss the current state of recycling and why this is perhaps not the best solution to our waste problems!
Getting to grips with our waste
Homework!
Post-course task - I will be encouraging all participants to carry out a bin audit before session two using the information learnt during the first workshop. Don’t worry I will provide you with all the information you need to carry out this task. I will encourage you to feed back your experience of this task before we jump into discussing changes in session two. Carrying out this task will help you to decided upon the areas you are keen to tackle when we begin talking alternatives.
Ready to get started on your zero waste journey? Book your tickets here - I look forward to meeting you.
